PGA Insurance FAQs

Are PGA members always covered by the Liability policy?

You are insured for the following activities only:

  • Your personal Coaching/Instruction/Demonstrations in accordance with PGA guidelines
  • Personal golf playing activities, including participating in formal events unless more specific Event Insurance is arranged elsewhere

It is your responsibility as coach to ensure that the venue is fit for play. If there are any issues with regard to the maintenance or condition of the driving ranges/courses you should not proceed with the coaching session and raise the issue with the managing entity immediately.

If you do not address the fitness of the venue for coaching/play and an accident arises as a result you may be held liable.

Your membership and insurance with the PGA will cover you and your limited company in very specific circumstances. Cover is specific to you as a coach when coaching on behalf of your limited company.

PGA members and their businesses will continue to need a separate insurance policy if:

  • Your business has paid employees
  • Your business organises golf trips and tours
  • Your business activities exceed teaching, instructing and coaching golf in accordance with PGA guidelines

If you require separate insurances, please contact Howden direct on 0121 698 8160 or email pga@howdengroup.com

Why would I need Employer's Liability insurance?

As a Coach, you may have Assistant Coaches or volunteers (even if unpaid) working for you as part of your activities, in which case you have a duty of care to them under Health and Safety at Work legislation. If they are injured and hold you responsible, the Employer's Liability insurance will protect you. If you require this additional cover please contact Howden on 0121 698 8160.

When would I need to purchase Tour Operators Liability?

If you are arranging any 2 or more of the following for your clients - travel, accommodation and/or activities, there is an exposure to tour operators liability and we would recommend you look to take up a Tour Operators insurance policy, in addition to liability insurance.  Essentially, as a Tour Operator you are not only responsible for your own actions, you are also responsible in law for the actions of the suppliers you use - this creates additional risk.

Claims could occur in the following situations:

  • Negligence of your suppliers
  • Injury or illness suffered by your passengers whilst on your holiday
  • Claims arising out of mistakes made during the holiday arrangements
  • Loss of enjoyment / ruination of "holidays of a lifetime"
  • Harassment claims
  • Property loss or damage
  • Class actions for dissatisfaction
  • Fatalities

The above is not exhaustive, and there are of course other scenarios which could give rise to a claim but hopefully the above gives you an idea of what to consider.
